Living-donor laparoscopic nephrectomy program

We are starting our living-donor laparoscopic nephrectomy program.
Donating a kidney is in itself an enormous act of love and empathy.
Traditional surgery is performed through a left flank incision, while the laparoscopic technique removes the organ through a minimal incision above the pubis. This makes the procedure less invasive, less painful, and with a faster recovery.
Adopting the laparoscopic approach has increased the rate of related living donors.
At UMIBA we have created a team focused specifically on this situation, performing laparoscopic organ removal independently of any kidney transplant program.
