Good afternoon, I am Gabriel Suarez, a patient of Dr. Gonzalo Vitagliano, and I wanted to take this opportunity to express my enormous gratitude to him and his team, as well as to the Hospital Alemán, on the occasion of my procedure with the Rezūm technique for my diagnosis of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. Good afternoon!!! I wanted to thank you for everything you did to save my husband's kidney. Truly incredible; the truth is it is a blessing to have this robotic surgery method and professionals so excellently trained to use it. The surgery and the postoperative period were excellent. He did not even feel he had been operated on. Ha ha. Honestly, I thank God for putting you in our path and for making this health problem the least traumatic possible and saving him, keeping us informed the whole time while he was in the operating room, before and after the surgery. When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and various doctors recommended I undergo surgery (radical prostatectomy), my greatest fears centered on the quality of life I would have after the operation. My fears were mainly about urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Dr. Vitagliano performed a robotic laparoscopy on me on a Friday afternoon. By Saturday morning I was already walking around the room, and on Sunday I was discharged and went home. Recovery from the surgery was very fast, without much pain, just some discomfort from the wounds that went away in a couple of days. After that, only the discomfort of the catheter, which was removed at 10 days. From that moment on, I could urinate without problems and never had any leaks. Thirty days after the surgery, I was able to have a full erection and sexual relations. Given how little time my recovery took, I am very happy to have made the decision to undergo a robotic laparoscopy with Dr. Vitagliano, an excellent professional with great warmth.

My name is María Laura Castellani, daughter of Héctor Castellani, born in 1936. This year, at 86, he was diagnosed with a severe enlargement of the prostate that made it difficult for him to urinate. At one hospital they placed a catheter and told him nothing more could be done, that because of his advanced age he could not be operated on, and that the catheter would be for life. My father fell into a deep depression and, unable to bear the discomfort of the catheter, he decided to remove it. That is how his health became complicated and I grew desperate. I would like to leave my testimony of the excellent care of Dr. Vitagliano and his team at the Hospital Alemán. After many months of waking up no fewer than 5 times a night and of incipient incontinence, I decided to make an appointment and had the luck of ending up in the hands of Dr. Vitagliano. On 12/13/2021 I had surgery with Dr. Vitagliano's team at the Hospital Alemán. I want to describe the experience… it really is night and day. Before the surgery, my situation was being permanently ready to run to a bathroom to urinate, and once in position, making an effort of mental concentration to relax and be able to urinate, or looking for different positions to empty my bladder: sitting, with one leg raised, crouching, etc., etc.… Evidently, during sleeping hours this situation repeated itself over and over, reaching, on the worst days, intervals of only one hour of sleep before needing the trip to the bathroom.

Hello, I am going to tell my experience regarding the prostate operation with a diagnosis of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. About 10 years ago I had already been advised to have surgery, because they saw my prostate growing year after year. To ease the situation while avoiding the operation, I took various pills that served my goal, which was not to be operated on. In the last two years I was already getting up 4 or 5 times a night, finding it quite hard to urinate. The situation became untenable in May of this year, when I felt a very strong urge to urinate, went to the bathroom, and barely passed a few drops. I spent two nights without sleep and self-prescribed “cystitis,” and began taking an antibiotic with the firm promise that as soon as I returned to Buenos Aires (Aeroparque), I would take the car and go to the Hospital Alemán. I arrived on a Saturday, kept my promise and went to the emergency room. A doctor, once aware of my ailment, gave me an order for an ultrasound (prostate, bladder, kidneys). When I returned to the office, she already had the result and asked me to stay while she went to find a specialist (urologist). When he arrived, he saw the study and said, “Come with me.” He had me lie down and told me, “We have to place a catheter, because your bladder is full and your kidneys are at risk.” Just like that, in 5 minutes I was draining through a catheter. As it was the weekend, they let me go with the catheter and gave me an appointment for Wednesday. Dr. Gonzalo Vitagliano's team was there, with him at the head. Once he saw the study, he told me surgery was needed “without fail,” and that I could choose another professional if I wanted. I had already looked into it, and he was precisely the one they recommended. I asked what kind of operation he would perform, and he said “laparoscopy,” not one word more. Until that moment, I thought the only options were laser and removing the prostate. He assured me that in a week I would be perfect and discharged in two. I immediately began the pre-surgical tests and was given an appointment for a week later; I was still with the catheter. The day of the operation arrived and I entered the operating room at about 6:00 p.m. on a Monday; I came out at 9:00 p.m. Needless to say, I felt absolutely nothing. The next morning I was already walking the halls, still with the catheter; on Wednesday I went home (with the catheter), and on Friday I had to go in to have the blessed catheter removed… Once it was out, I had to drink about 2 liters of water and wait for the moment of truth. Honestly, I could not imagine what it was like to urinate without any effort; it seemed I would never feel the urge, which was already a change, because before the operation, without a catheter, I felt the urge all day and never passed more than a trickle or… nothing. And the moment came: I went to the bathroom and a stream really came out that I thought belonged to someone else. I could not believe it; it was impressive. And from then on my way of life changed: I go to meetings without worrying, I drive 500 km without going to the bathroom. In a word, talk to Vitagliano and fix your life….

I had a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, and this is my personal experience. «The operation went exactly as described. Without any pain. Recovery is very fast. The bladder catheter, which was one of my greatest fears, is placed during the surgery, taking advantage of the anesthesia, and at 24 hours it is removed with a slight discomfort, nothing more than that. In general, the feeling after the operation is that of having done a great many sit-ups, but I never suffered pain, only that discomfort. The first 24 hours pass quickly, since during the first 12 hours one sleeps a lot, and after that, with the nurses' help, one begins to sit up and, progressively, to walk. The diet is liquid at first, and little by little one begins to eat semi-solid foods. At 48 hours I was already home. The abdominal discomfort disappears over the days and is bearable. To sleep, the first two or three days I felt better on my back, but then I began to sleep normally. Within a week I was already driving and went on a trip to the coast. From then on, a normal life, always respecting the instruction not to lift more than 5 kg for a month. I am 62 years old. On 11/12/18 I was operated on by laparoscopy for a tumor (oncocytoma) in one kidney at the Hospital Alemán. It was my first major operation, so I felt some fears.
