Prostate cancer: prevention is the best ally. Lanacion.com.ar
November is prostate cancer awareness month, a disease that affects 1 in 10 men. Regular check-ups and early diagnosis are key to better treatment. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, affects 1 in ten, and adds up to a total of 1.3 million people worldwide. One in forty will die from this type of disease, which is entirely preventable.
In this sense, these figures could drop sharply if men adopted the habits women accepted many years ago: having a check-up every year.
Dr. Gonzalo Vitagliano, Head of the Oncology and Uro-laparoscopy Section at Hospital Alemán de Buenos Aires, is one of those who calls for a change in mindset. “We modern men have to understand that we should see the urologist the same way women see the gynecologist; it is simple,” says the specialist, a University Specialist in Urology, Fellow in Uro-laparoscopy, and Master in Uro-oncology.
