Urinary tract reconstructive surgery
Reconstructive urological surgery is a subspecialty aimed at repairing and restoring the anatomy and function of the urinary tract, from the kidneys to the urethra. It makes it possible to correct congenital defects, treat the aftermath of trauma or of disease such as cancer, and resolve strictures or obstructions that impede the flow of urine. At UMIBA these reconstructions are performed with high-precision techniques, including minimally invasive robotic and laparoscopic surgery and the use of grafts when the case requires it, with the goal of preserving function and favoring a faster recovery. The surgical team is formed according to the complexity of the procedure: for reconstruction of the urethra (urethroplasty), UMIBA has associated specialists dedicated to this technique. The surgical plan is defined at the consultation, individually, according to each patient's diagnosis and goals.
